Apologies to all people who came to the 10th October meeting. It was a real pleasure to meet so many familiar faces. I had planned toset up the blog and cond contact everybody right away. The filming in Bury Rd was too ambitious as well but we will be up in the spring. Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

DID YOU KNOW? that R & T Howarth's started in Balderstone. R & T Howarth's were a well-known construction company in Rochdale and built 21 mills and other landmarks in both Rochdale and throughout the North West.

THE R & T's STORY is coming back home. Mike, great-grandson of founder Robert Howarth, has discovered boxes of old documents, plans and photos about life in Lower Place; Albert Royds Street, Muriel Street, Lower Place Methodist Chapel and Moss House, going back to 1835 and earlier. Most of these have now been loaned to Touchstones. If you or your family lived around Lower Place you may find something of interest about your family history. Did you or family members work for R & T's? Are you distantly related as a Clough, a Saville or a Whitworth?

Mike is an ex BBC Education producer, a university lecturer, photographer and video cameraman and his illustrated talk will jog memories of local people and places and about the company. Come along and swap tales and share stories.

The meeting will be held at 7.00 pm on Monday, October 10th at Balderstone Library and will be preceded by a short AGM. Unfortunately, to ensure the continuation of the FOBL it has been necessary to increase the annual subscription to £2. Everyone welcome and tea and coffee will be provided.

The archive of 19 boxes at Touchstones are accompanied by setsof videos examining the boxes of images.. Here is the introduction.
