Professor David Lane, Visiting Professor at Middlesex University’s Institute for Work Based
Learning, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Psychological Society’s
Annual Conference, to be held in April 2010

Background

Professor Lane is Research Director of the International Centre for the Study of Coaching at Middlesex, and has contributed to leading-edge research in education, coaching and management issues. At Middlesex, he developed the first Professional Doctorate in coaching. He also set up structures for specialised awards in psychotherapy for the European Federation of Psychologists Associations which were recently adopted by 34 countries.

Professor Lane was appointed Visiting Professor at Middlesex’s Institute for Work Based Learning
[date]. He is heavily involved in promoting collaborative research in coaching, through the International Centre for the Study of Coaching (ICSC). His work has also included research into the effectiveness of coaching with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and work on establishing standards for coaching with international coaching organisations. He has also pioneered Masters degrees in coaching through Work Based Learning, and promoted the first professional Doctorate in coaching.

Professor Carol Costley, of Middlesex’s Institute for Work Based Learning, said: “We’re delighted to see Professor Lane recognised for his work by such a prestigious professional body. He has made an immense contribution to the development of theory, study and practice of coaching here at theUniversity’s International Centre for the Study of Coaching, and we look forward to working with him on a range of projects in the future”.
